As a full time consultant with national innovation sector banking experience, it was apparent in 2001 that there existed an opportunity in the Great Lakes region for a business bank with an innovation sector specialization. Due diligence within the market confirmed that Bank of Ann Arbor was uniquely positioned to take advantage of this market opportunity. Targeted executive meetings were arranged, pitch decks presented and an opportunity to start the group, write the business plan, gain board level support and reside as the group’s president for 22 years was the successful outcome.

As a co-founder of Royal Bank of Canada’s Los Angeles, California based Technology Industry Group we successfully executed a market development plan, achieving a number two ranking in North America. Providing a variety of bank debt structures running from $10 million to $100 million along with foreign exchange and interest rate hedging products we built and managed a $2.0 billion portfolio and worked with the world’s leading technology sector corporations. Business analysis, relationship development, portfolio management, decision making, meeting deadlines and cross-functional collaboration were a few of the keys to success.

As a full-time consultant, partnered with one of Southern California’s largest business insurance agencies to create a pioneering human resources SaaS company. Leveraged existing relationships to pitch a new business collaboration concept which led to the development of a full business plan, a successful round of angel and strategics funding, new business launch and an interim CEO role. However, despite a successful product launch and a strategically important early client win the bursting of the tech bubble in 1999/2000 forced the company to shut down.
